* FEATURE ARTICLE * Should You Use an Article Spinner? Should you use an article spinner in your article marketing efforts? Depending on your article marketing goals, using an article spinner will help you generate, distribute and publish many more articles in less time than writing original articles from scratch. Whether that translates into bottom line results, however, is another matter… So what is an article spinner? Basically, an article spinner is a tool that allows you to produce multiple articles from one original article. The idea is that by using an article spinner, you can create, distribute and publish many more “unique” articles in much less time than you would if you tried to write the same number of original articles. I say “unique” (in inverted commas) because no article spinner is likely to generate lots of totally unique articles. By definition, an article spinner generates variations of one article. And, as you might imagine, the extent to which any given article is unique depends on how many variants of how many paragraphs, sentences and words you – or the article spinner – produces. So, if you want to produce truly unique articles, forget using an article spinner and simply write (or hire someone to write) fresh, original articles. On the other hand, if you like the idea of saving time and producing tons of somewhat unique articles, here’s why an article spinner might be helpful. In fact, using an article spinner is designed to help you in three main ways: - Using an article spinner saves you time in creating lots of articles.
- Using an article spinner helps you produce sufficiently unique articles which are, consequently, more likely to be accepted by article sites and article directories that will only publish unique content.
- Using an article spinner helps you get a higher search engine ranking for each article you generate using the article spinner.
Now, I can’t really talk about using an article spinner without quickly debunking the infamous duplicate content myth, so here goes: the search engines do index duplicate content – for example, multiple copies of the same article – as long as those articles are published on different websites. What they don’t like is duplicate content on the same website, which means that if a website contains more than one page containing the same content, the search engines will only tend to index one of those pages. So, from a search engine optimization (SEO) perspective, how does using an article spinner to generate multiple versions of the same article benefit you over simply distributing the same article to article sites and article directories? Well, in theory, using an article spinner to publish lots of different articles on different websites means there will be less competition between those articles in terms of ranking for the same keywords. In other words, you won’t have the same article (published on different sites) vying for the same keywords. Instead, you’ll have lots of different articles vying for different keywords. Of course, this is the theory behind using an article spinner. You need to test out the process for yourself to see whether you are better off using an article spinner or simply writing (or hiring someone to write) lots of truly different articles. So how does an article spinner work? Well depending on which article spinner you use, the basic process goes like this… Firstly, you write one original article. Then you rewrite the article several times – for example, four times. You do this by rewriting each paragraph, and sometimes many of the sentences and words, so that each article covers the same topic but reads differently. You might even use an article spinner that includes a built-in thesaurus that generates alternative words and expressions for each article. Using the article spinner in this way lets you create several – in this example, five – unique articles on the same topic. Ideally these are all high quality articles you can publish and distribute in their own right. You might, for example, add the original article to your own website, and then submit each of the remaining four articles to the top authority sites and newsletters in your niche as well as reputable article directories. The next step is to get your article spinner to “spin” these five articles. Again, each article spinner works somewhat differently, but the process usually involves: you (or the article spinner) combining the various article versions into a text file;
choosing how many variations you want (e.g. 100); and
pressing “spin” to let the article spinner generate all the article variations. The article spinner creates however many articles you request by mixing and matching variations of all the paragraphs, sentences and words you created when rewriting the original article. Once the article spinner has generated all the articles you want, you can now submit them to article sites and article directories. You can do this manually, via an article submission tool or service, or via the article spinner, if it comes as part of an article distribution tool or service, as some do. Is there a downside to using an article spinner? While you could foreseeably use an article spinner to pump out hundreds of articles to hundreds of article sites and article directories, it would be naive to assume that doing so will result in a sudden boost in back-links (i.e. back-links that are highly regarded by the search engines) or traffic (either direct or from the search engines). The fact is that using an article spinner is no guarantee of getting your articles published, let alone ranking for desirable keywords, or for bringing traffic to your site – either direct traffic from the article sites or article directories that have published your articles, or indirect traffic from your article’s search engine listing. Ultimately, your success with using an article spinner for article marketing will depend on the quality of the articles you (or your article writer) has written, the quality of the spun articles generated by the article spinner, which article sites and article directories end up publishing your articles, how much traffic your articles on those article sites and article directories get, how well the search engines regard those article sites and article directories (and specifically links from those sites), and other such factors. So, all in all, as in most other areas of Internet marketing, using an article spinner is no silver bullet. It is, however, something to experiment with and test. You may discover that the time saved in generating multiple articles is reason enough to use an article spinner… or that the time saving doesn’t match the benefits you get from writing and publishing truly unique articles from scratch.
