And find out you lied. So they call you again and you make up an excuse (lie) about the check getting lost in the mail and that you'll send them out another one. This time you really send them a check, but it's useless because you don't really have have the cash in your account to cover it. You just sent the check to make it look good. You wrote it (lied) so you could stall them. Now the check bounces and the TRUTH comes out. Then they put pressure on you by mailing you a shut-off notice and so you call them and make "payment arrangements" that you know you can't keep. You know it's a long shot, because now they see that you're a liar and can't be trusted from what happened previously ... * Your check that never arrived. * Your check that bounced. But you have to lie a little more, because you have to stall them from cutting off your gas and electric ... Or your phone. Or your water. Or this or that ... It doesn't matter. You just have to stall. So you make up fantastic tragic stories that involve your kids or a death in the family or whatever sounds good that day. You seek to touch the heart of some rep on the other end of the phone who will listen to your story and go along with giving you more time. More time to pay. But by that time, you're now in the hole 2 + months on top of what you owed before! ------------- MORE LYING ------------- Now because you're deeper in the hole, you start to borrow from friends and family. You know you have to tell them a good story in order for them to part with their money. They have their own problems, so if it ain't a good story - you're screwed! So now you have to create more fiction. And then you agree to a deadline to pay them back, but all along you know that you won't meet the deadline. You just have to agree and make it look good, so they'll give you the money. And of course when the deadline hits, you don't have their money. Now they're calling you and calling you and you're ducking and dodging them. Scared to answer the phone! Now your creditors and the people who are close to you, who trusted you, that you just borrowed money from, are calling you ... WANTING THEIR MONEY! And you can't even pick up the phone in your own house! You tell your kids to pick up the phone and you coach them to tell these people lies. "He's not here" ... "She's not here" ... "They moved to Japan" You know what I'm talking about. But then something happens that tells the world that you're a liar and puts your business right out in the street ... YOUR PHONE GETS CUT OFF! Now you have an embarrassing message that plays when people call you, that says your phone has been disconnected. You can't lie about that one. I remember when that used to happen to me ... It was like the most embarrassing thing. And some parents don't even realize how especially embarrassing it can be for a teenager in school. People would make fun of you. Say your parents were broke. Call them dead-beats. So now your kids have to lie for you, so they can save face around their friends. But then more truth comes ... YOUR CAR GETS REPO'ED! Right from in front of your house. Or even worse, while you're at work and all your co-workers see you chasing the flat-bed truck down the street, with your car chained on top! Now you're whispered about behind your back at the water cooler. Now you have to make up lies at work, so you can try and keep your dignity. ---------- THE TRUTH ---------- Do you see where I'm going with all this? Does any of this sound like your story? Are you shaking your head while reading this? It's because it's NOT a story. I've actually been through all of this. I can relate. The wake up call for me was when I became so much of a LOSER that I acted like a child when the door bell rang, or when the phone rang ... (before it was cut off) Acting like a scared child, scared to pick up the phone in my own house, because I knew it was someone who wanted the money that I owed them. It was the most disgusting feeling that I've ever had in my life! Ducking and dodging people. Making sure you don't run into them because you owe them money. I swear to you ... One time I avoided my landlord for (3) months because I couldn't afford to pay the rent. He finally got tired of my excuses (my lies) and threatened to throw my family out on the street. Then I had to BEG my Uncle to help me pay my rent. It was one of the lowest points of my life. I felt 2 feet tall. So yeah ... I know what it's like. 7 years ago, I WAS A HUGE LIAR! But seriously ...
